I've been meaning to get down to these beautiful grounds for the longest time.
Englefield House is a beautiful Elizabethan country house, tucked away in the quieter of Berkshire's countryside. For a lover of polished and preened gardens, the grounds here are an absolute must (although they're only open on a Monday).
Aside from the beautifully manicured main gardens, there are endless wandering and hidden pathways to explore, each concealing something to view, somewhere to sit and sometimes, a little surprise - we couldn't get off of this ??? swing! For me, the charm of the place can be truly experienced because more often than not, it's empty. You'll see the odd fellow admirer wandering through the hedges but for the most part, you're left to enjoy the garden on your own.
Go now and the place is alive with azalea, tulips and rhododendrons, but I can't wait to get back in Summer to everywhere carpeted with roses!
Are you an avid garden-goer? Where is your favourite?
